Immediate Suspension of Interview Waiver for Certain Nationalities - 55 Countries Affected

Effective immediately, nationals and citizens of the following countries applying for nonimmigrant visas, including those who previously held visas and are renewing, will be required to attend an in-person interview with a consular officer:


  1. Afghanistan

  2. Angola

  3. Antigua and Barbuda

  4. Benin

  5. Bhutan

  6. Burkina Faso

  7. Burma

  8. Burundi

  9. Cabo Verde

  10. Cambodia

  11. Cameroon

  12. Chad

  13. Cote D’Ivoire

  14. Cuba

  15. Republic of Congo

  16. Democratic Republic of Congo

  17. Djibouti

  18. Dominica

  19. Egypt

  20. Equatorial Guinea

  21. Eritrea

  22. Ethiopia

  23. Gabon

  24. The Gambia

  25. Ghana

  26. Haiti

  27. Iran

  28. Kyrgyz Republic

  29. Laos

  30. Liberia

  31. Libya

  32. Malawi

  33. Mauritania

  34. Niger

  35. Nigeria

  36. Saint Kitts and Nevis

  37. Saint Lucia

  38. Sao Tome and Principe

  39. Sierra Leone

  40. Senegal

  41. Somalia

  42. South Sudan

Applicants for diplomatic and official visas from these countries should exercise use of the normal diplomatic channels for updated guidance on interview scheduling. If you are a citizen or a national of one of these countries, regardless of the place of your application, you should not submit your application for processing using Interview Waiver – you must make an appointment for an in-person visa interview.
