DHS Announced Travel Assistance and Stipend for Voluntary “Self-Deportation” of Undocumented Immigrants - May 5, 2025

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on May 5, 2025, announced financial aid and travel assistance for undocumented immigrant or illegal aliens intending to voluntarily “Self-Deport”, via the CBP Home App.


“If you are here illegally, self-deportation is the best, safest and most cost-effective way to leave the United States to avoid arrest. DHS is now offering illegal aliens financial travel assistance and a stipend to return to their home country through the CBP Home App,”

– DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.


On March 10, 2025, DHS launched CBP Home App with “Self-Deport” Reporting Feature. The recent announcement of incentives (travel assistance – flight-ticket to home country, and stipend - USD 1,000) for voluntary self-deportation are offered to encourage more illegal immigrants / undocumented immigrants to voluntarily depart the United States.

DHS claims that the first use of travel assistance has already proven successful and the illegal alien who recently utilized the program to receive a ticket for a flight to him home country.

Only time will tell if this initiative successfully encourages voluntary departure of illegal immigrants from the U.S.
